ANZAC Day commemorations 2016

ANZAC Day last year was the 100th Anniversary of the ANZAC Landings at Gallipoli. To commemorate and honour this significant historical occasion we asked all students to get involved in their community as way of recognising and honouring the sacrifices of our forebears. Over 150 ƵƬ students participated in numerous parades and services. This was a fantastic experience for our students to have the chance to be directly involved in such a significant community event. As the years move on, it is important that as Australians we never forget the sacrifice that our soldiers, sailors, airmen and volunteers gave towards the future of our country. As a young vibrant section of the community we have an obligation to provide a link between generations and ensure this sacred day in the Australian calendar is always honoured appropriately.

Playground vision

Play is a rich dimension of being human, human development and learning. Children and young people worldwide love to play and it is essential to their growth as positive, cooperative and collaborative people. Being with friends is often quoted by students as the thing they most enjoy in their lives. In the Salesian tradition, the school playground is the most central invitational space for making friends and is considered to be just as important as the classroom. It was the common ground for our founder Don Bosco in developing his relationship with the boys with whom he worked in nineteenth-century Turin.

Year 7 camps at Fortescue Bay

Year 7 attended camp last week in House groups. Siena and Guzman went Monday-Wednesday, Savio and Bosco went Wednesday-Friday. While one group went on a 6 km hike to Bivouac Bay, the other went kayaking and did beach activities. During the hike many people got attacked by leeches! Two Houses were lucky enough to see a seal. We were all expecting the hike to be really difficult but it ended up not being as challenging as we thought it might.
