K-6 Assembly 16 May 2018

The Kinder-Year 6 Assembly was held on Wednesday 16 May. It was an exciting assembly, particularly for our Kinder students as it was the first assembly they have attended this year. As usual, the assembly was full of student work and achievement.

7-10 assembly 9 May

​At this week’s 7-10 Assembly, we celebrated the wonderful contributions students have made in all facets of College life. Mrs McMahon talked about the amazing efforts in raising money for those less fortunate through fundraising for Project Compassion. We also celebrated the terrific efforts of students on the sporting field and in the creative and performing arts.

Feast Day for our Salesian Saints

This week we held the first of our College Feast Days for 2018. It was a magnificent community day for our students and staff - commencing in class groups - having fun, being with friends, then praying together at mass. Sharing a meal and then playing games with each other out on the oval were further highlights. Our patron and founder, St John Bosco did this with his own students over 150 years ago on special feast days of the Church. The boys at the Oratory would have mass together, go on a walk in the countryside, have a picnic and play games together. Like our students, the boys of the Oratory loved it.

ANZAC Day commemorations

I want to thank all families who supported the 140 students who represented ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ on ANZAC Day during the term break. It means a lot to us that so many students and staff took the time to break their vacation, dress in their formal uniform and gather with other students and staff to honour those who have both served and sacrificed for our nation.

Dance Eisteddfod coming up

​An important event for many students, the Southern Tasmanian Dance Eisteddfod is on in July at the Derwent Entertainment Centre. The schools session is on the first day, the last day of Term 2, and ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ will again have two teams competing: Year 8 Elective Dance and Year 9/10 Elective Dance.

Tanks for the visit

On Monday morning many of our younger students had the great opportunity to see, touch and climb into an eight wheeled Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV). This class of vehicle is largely used by the Army for reconnaissance, as well as a personnel carrier, command, surveillance, ambulance, fitter and recovery vehicle.

Old Scholars Football 2018

​Dominic Old Scholars Association (DOSA) Football has a long history of successful competition and maintaining valuable links and friendships between ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ and past students. The Football Club is renowned for the number of old scholars playing for the Roosters, and is now the only club now playing with the school logo on their jumpers.

ANZAC Day 2018

​On ANZAC Day this year over 250 students, staff and families attending community commemorations around Hobart, focusing on parades and wreath-laying at Hobart, Lenah Valley, Glenorchy, New Norfolk and Pontville/Brighton. The College was very proud of the participation and the presentation of our students. Well done to the wreath-layers and thank you to all our Year 10 leaders for stepping up on this public occasion.

​On Wednesday night, 11 April, the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ Community were blessed with a presentation from world-famous author and speaker, Mr Steve Biddulph, on Raising Boys. Steve was an amazing presenter. He talked about the evolution of boys and men and offered many ideas and suggestions on how we can best mould the next generation of young men.
