Year 6: learning to be leaders

Every new school year is exciting but it is particularly exciting in Year 6 where there are special roles and challenges that make it a little different.

The smiles and positive attitudes demonstrated by everyone in Room 14 and 15 on Day 1 were a fantastic start to the year!

All students in Year 6 are leaders, who will be learning how to set good examples of positive behaviour and to demonstrate our four expectations for all to see. As role models they will learn that expectations are to be maintained during playtime, sporting events and even when lining up or at times when waiting is necessary.

It’s not always easy being in a leadership role and maintaining it especially when it’s relatively new and still being mastered. We can lead by being good positive examples. Year 6 will be working on this and showing us how it’s done to help us all out over the year.

Here’s what some Year 6 students have to say about learning the leadership role:

‘Leadership is an amazing quality to have for school and everywhere in life.’ Kelsea Cano Calderdon

‘It is a privilege to be a Year 6 leader and step up to model for younger students’. Heidi McPherson

‘Learning to be a leader is challenging because you have to be a role model to everyone else.’ Lucas Allen

‘It is an adventure to be in Year 6 because you can help and encourage younger students.’ Kailyn Rassiga

‘Being a leader takes time and effort, and a great attitude towards staff and students - we all need to work on that.’ Ella Rainbird

‘It is an honour to be a Year 6 leader because you get to help younger students.’ Chloe Cooper

‘Being a leader means abiding by the rules which is a challenge and takes time and effort, but I’m up for that.’ Maddison Bowerman
