Year 2A decided to enter an Easter Canvas competition at Bunnings, Glenorchy last term. Bunnings Warehouse hosted an Easter Community Art Show for local schools and invited our class to take part.
This entailed a donation of a canvas, which was to be painted or decorated by our students, each taking part in some way.
The theme had to be related to Easter animals, which could also include Australian native animals. Our canvas was on display in the DIY area at Bunnings and was showcased at their Easter Family Night held in mid- April.
Students in Year 2A were invited to attend the family night and see their artwork on display. During the event, all participating canvases were voted on.
Each student in our class contributed to the canvas in some way, whether it be drawing, painting, gluing, or gathering and collecting our materials. We wanted to show our love for Australian animals, and chose ones that were familiar to us.
We agreed to illustrate one of our favourites, the koala, and discussed the Australian native bilby, which we represented as the Easter Bunny. We found a variety of materials outside on the ground to use as their habitat, including leaves, bark, sticks and gumnuts. We then designed the Easter basket and we each decorated parts of the eggs. Finally, an Easter basket is not complete without its Jojo bow. Students also had a chance to use a cotton ball, mixing colours to represent the pale blue sky and the rustic green grass, using a dabbing technique.
We are thrilled to announce our Easter canvas was the winner! Our class have won $100 worth of Bunnings gift vouchers for the school, and plenty of Easter eggs to share.
Students in 2A have done a magnificent job completing this masterpiece. They showed great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the whole process. Well done!
