Year 1 art: God's Eye's

Year 1 students and teachers have been busily preparing for the upcoming ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ Creative Arts Festival.

This year we have themed our collaborative piece of artwork ‘Fashioned in God’s Eyes’. Throughout Term 3 students have been learning to weave small craft pieces called ‘God’s Eyes’. The God’s Eye is symbolic of the power of seeing and understanding that which is unknown and unknowable, The Mystery.

These pieces involve two crossed sticks with wool rhythmically woven around them to create a beautiful pattern. The creation of God’s eyes has involved initial teacher instruction and demonstration and gradually evolved to allow students to teach one another how to create a God’s eye.

The Year 1 contribution to the Creative Arts Festival will involve each individual student’s God’s Eye in a larger piece in order to create a shared piece of work. As we aim to work ‘In God’s Eyes’ we hope to reflect His values and teachings in our everyday Year 1 lives.

The Creative Arts Festival runs from September 7-10 at The Long Gallery in Salamanca. We hope to see many families throughout the festival to share our beautiful art.
