World Read Aloud Day celebrated

This year World Read Aloud Day grew even bigger at ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ.

Older students joined their younger schoolmates to enjoy short stories, picture books and other engaging texts.

Not only was it a wonderful opportunity to interact with fellow students from different year levels, but it also allowed the younger students to showcase their reading abilities and share a mutual love of books.

As the name suggests, World Read Aloud Day is indeed a worldwide event with millions of people in over one hundred countries across five continents taking time out of their regular day to read aloud together. It all began with the vision of a well-known literacy educator and author Pam Allyn, who visited Nairobi and experienced the urgent desire children had to read, write and share their stories.

On her return to New York, she gathered a group of friends and leaders to join her in building a new movement designed to promote the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories. Literacy has a life-saving power and it needs to been seen as a right for every individual throughout the world.

It was wonderful to have the opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate the magic of words and the pure joy of reading. We certainly enjoyed taking a moment to read and share stories together.
