On Monday 28 August, ten Year 7 and 8 students will catch an early flight to Melbourne to attend two exciting days at the 2017 Writers Festival.
The Melbourne Writers Festival is an annual two week literary festival and during the Schools Program, aspiring writers can meet numerous authors and attend a variety of seminars and workshops related to writing.
Libby Baker, Sarah Fulton, Emily Viney, Ella Triffet, Maddison Cockerill, Hannah Maw, Aliya Wilson, Anit Saju, Sarah Wright and Cassie McLoughlin were selected to attend the festival from a large group of students after registering their interest through a writing competition.
Mr Martin Kress and Ms Jessica Agius will accompany the group as they attend a variety of writing sessions and workshops at venues located in and around Melbourne’s Federation Square.
Some of the authors and presenters they will have the opportunity to engage with are Grace Halphen, Shaun Tan, Garth Nix, Osamah Sami, Cate Kennedy and Jessica Yu.
We would sincerely like to thank our generous supporters who have helped make this trip possible. This enrichment opportunity could not have been offered without the financial support of our wonderful and generous local politicians: Andrew Wilkie, Josh Willie, Scott Bacon, Madeleine Ogilvie and Cassy O’Connor.
We look forward to hearing and reading about the adventures of our budding young writers when they return to school next week.
