On Friday 29 March, Cassie Mcloughlin, Shakira Cate, Oriel Estorninho and I all attended RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) at the Lea Scout camp off the Southern Outlet.
We had the opportunity to go to this program due to the generosity of the Rotary Club of Glenorchy and the Rotary Club of Claremont.
At this camp, we had the chance to make many new friends, set goals for ourselves and more importantly, learn what it is like to lead and be a part of a team.
On the first day we were split into teams; red, blue, black and yellow. Each group had a different colour bandana and had a different day to cook breakfast for the others. We worked together on many different activities but showed our individuality along the way.
We completed many different activities such as learning how to build a ‘shelter box’, having a quiz night, completing a ropes challenge. Through these activities and other seminars we learned more about ourselves and how we can make a positive effect on the lives of other people.
This whole experience has shown me that you are a leader with or without a badge and to never be afraid of stepping up.
