Music and Art building update

The good news is the building schedule is on track for completion during Term 4.

With the site in such a prominent position in the school, the build has been highly visible, and although outward signs of progress appear to have been slow, there has been constant activity, drilling into rock and preparing the footings and configuring the complex design. In the past few weeks, progress has been more evident with the beginnings of the outer brick walls and installation of the concrete panels.

The finished building will be a state-of-the-art Music and Art teaching facility.

It will contain two dedicated art teaching spaces, one for K-6 and one for 7-10. Alongside this will be a printmaking studio, a multi-media studio, suitable for small scale film and video making, and an art supplies storage capacity.

The Music facilities are equally impressive with two dedicated music teaching spaces, one for K-6 and one for 7-10. It will also contain instrument storage spaces, a recording studio and state of the art, soundproof, practice rooms.

The central corridor between theses spaces will also double as gallery hanging space for displaying student work.

There is also an area for Music Tutors to be based.

The footprint of the existing building is being expanded and will accommodate a walkway on the upper level aroound the K-10 library.

The Creative Arts staff are already planning how the new facility will work. Music and Art teachers are looking forward to being able to conduct classes in teaching spaces that reflect significant changes in curriculum and teaching practices.

The new spaces will allow students to engage with multi media as well different music forms and the plethora of art practices that are now part of contemporary art and music education.

It certainly is an exciting time for the Creative Arts Department and the College, and of course, for our students.
