On Wednesday 15 November, we held our traditional International Men’s Day Breakfast.
This is a day where we encourage the boys and men in our community to focus on what kind of men they want to be and promote the concept that they support each other to become good men of integrity and respect, being good friends to each other and making sound life choices.
We were blessed to have Dominic Old Scholar, Professor James Vickers who is the Chair of Pathology at the University of Tasmania and is Co-Director of the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health.
Professor Vickers spoke about the influence of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ on his life and his journey to his research interests in neurodegenerative diseases particularly Alzheimer’s disease.
An inspiring speaker, Professor Vickers encouraged our students to have mentors in their lives and be aware of sponsors with whom they might engage to open up opportunities. He really encouraged our boys to keep their options open as they develop their careers and to use opportunities as they arise.
Thank you to the men and boys who attended. Special thank also to our wonderful musicians and dancers who entertained, and our leaders who contributed prayers and introductions to our proceedings.
The day successfully raised significant funds through ticket sales and raffle sales, for scholarships to Samoan students at the Don Bosco Technical School. You can see more photos on our gallery: Men's breakfast.
