This week both K-6 leaders and the College leaders attended the annual GRIP Leaders conferences at the Derwent Entertainment Centre, for professional leadership learning. Some of our leaders below report on the days:
This week the Kinder-Year 6 Captains and House Captains travelled to the Derwent Entertainment Centre. There they were privileged to attend the GRIP Leadership conference - a practical and interactive training opportunity for student leaders.
One of the key concepts we learnt was: “Lead like a strawberry and not like a watermelon.” We learnt that we should strive to be a strawberry leader, which is a person who leads with integrity and like a strawberry they are the same type of person on the inside and outside.
A watermelon leader acts and speaks differently on the outside to how they are on the inside. Remember to have BERRY good integrity!
The day was filled with many inspiring, fun and interesting activities including learning how leaders are transformers, contribute positive change. We also enjoyed interacting with leaders from other schools. In conclusion, everyone came away with positive ideas to transform ourselves and others.

On 19 February, Year 10 student leaders attended the Student Leaders’ Conference at the Derwent Entertainment Centre.
The conference was to strengthen our skills as leaders and give us useful ways to improve the school environment for others.
Our first activity was to turn the word CHANGE into an acronym; Clarify, Help, Advantage, Names, Go forward and Evaluate with each one helping us refine our ideas so that they are the best they can be.
We needed to assess the strength and weaknesses of our school and use that information to find the things we needed to focus on. I can say for myself and others that we have been inspired to use our ideas to better the school community.
Through all of this we had the chance to participate in fun little activities that usually involved us getting to know other leaders and sharing our ideas.
We were able to pick two of the four courses that we thought would help us the most. Those courses included; transforming my capacity, increasing event participation, transforming school pride and developing the effectiveness of our team.
It was important for all leaders to share their ideas with other schools so we all had the chance to learn all that we could. Overall we found the experience very beneficial and rewarding and as a team we look forward to putting our plans into action.
