DOSA Football Club triumphant

Five years after their 2013 senior premiership, DOSA Football Club not only celebrated a mighty win but for the first time two premierships, as the club won both the seniors and reserves Old Scholars Football Association grand finals.

North Hobart Oval was decked out in beautiful yellow, maroon and black streamers and balloons and a large number of family and friends including many ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ students cheered the reserves out onto the field against University in the early game.

DOSA reserves featured a blend of mature and young players and were coached by ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ old scholar and teacher Aaron Davey. The team had began the year badly but gradually the players commitment picked up and the side had some wonderful wins to qualify for the grand final.

Both teams started well, kicking straight, but DOSA's clean transition play and superior tackling created more opportunities and their lead was three goals at quarter time. The second and third quarters were a mighty battle in the midfield with both sides stalemated scoring just a goal each in each quarter, with DOSA ahead by 21 points at three quarter time.

In the final quarter DOSA's silky skills stood out and the side deserved their powerful win. Scores: DOSA 11 7 73 to University 7 4 46. Old scholar Liam Wakefield was man of the match, well supported by Brad Tuffin, Kaden Salter, Patrick Carroll, Justin Caroll and Cameron Golding.

DOSA seniors had been thereabouts all season with new coach Jake Briggs getting on top of opposing teams with strong strategic play. Richmond were the hardest team in the competition to beat all season, winning the first three encounters with DOA before DOSA turned the tables in the last two.

DOSA dominated the first quarter but failed to convert the dominance into points and was behind by two points at quarter time with just five behinds for their nevertheless strong effort. Simlarly DOSA were again all over Richmond in the second quarter, controlling play and field position, but turnovers, though infrequent, proved costly. At half time DOSA was four points down 1 9 15 to 3 1 19. Supporters were restless - with no buffer and too many istakes, if Richmond got on top DOSA would have to chase from behind. In the third quarter Richmond kicked away to lead by 10 but DOSA kept the pressure up and their heads high and gradually got on top. DOSA's back six were tight and kept cutting off Richmond's attacks. The speed on the wings was good and the forwards were strong; Caden Wilson ended up kicking five goals for the game.

The game was tight all day but eventually DOSA pulled away in the last five minutes and ended victorious 8 13 61 to 7 3 45. Best on ground was Aaron Grubb, with great support from Gareth delaney, Ben Griffin, Caden Wilson, Justin Veitch and Scott Beattie.

The scenes on the oval during and after the presentation brought tears to the eyes of many Rooster fans and the hugging and high-fiving was heartfelt. Families, youngsters and old men thronged together in celebration, and both teams and supporters gathered in the middle for another round of the Roosters Club Song.
